Engaging with the Government’s Plan to Halve Knife Crime: School Visit in Gillingham

We recently had the opportunity to visit a school in Gillingham, Kent, alongside Minister for Policing and Crime, Sarah Jones MP, as part of the Government’s launch of its plan to halve knife crime in a decade.

The visit brought together young people to share their views, experiences and concerns around knife crime, providing an invaluable opportunity to listen directly to those most affected and to better understand their perspectives.
As part of the UK Government’s Knife Crime Coalition, Charlie’s Promise firmly believes that one of the most powerful tools we have in tackling knife crime is early education. We will continue to campaign for greater investment in education and awareness, ensuring that young people are equipped with the knowledge and understanding needed to make safer choices.
We also strongly believe in the importance of raising the voices of young people themselves. Early intervention remains absolutely vital, and this can only be achieved by providing safe spaces, positive opportunities, and access to trusted individuals who will listen, engage and support them.
We would like to thank the Home Office and Sarah Jones MP for inviting us to be part of this important work and for the opportunity to contribute to discussions that aim to help build a safer future for young people across the country.
Sarah has also kindly promised to attend a Charlie’s Promise school talk to hear Charlie’s story in full, and we very much look forward to welcoming her to join us.
